The horse's body is completely covered with a pattern of concentric circles made of dots. The design and technique are rooted in the dot painting traditions of the Australian Aboriginal people. They invented it approximately 4,000 years ago and used it as a form of writing. Using dot patterns, the indigenous people of Australia recorded their history, described the structure of the world, recorded lunar and stellar observations, and maintained an agricultural calendar. Today, Aboriginal dot painting is at the peak of popularity, considered a national treasure, and is prohibited from being exported.
